What the Pythagorean Square is
The Pythagorean Square, or psychomatrix, is a calculation from a date of birth in which digits are distributed across nine cells of a 3×3 table. What counts is not the value of a digit but how many times it appears in the date and the working numbers.
The name points to Pythagoras, but ancient mathematics has nothing to do with it. The version with counting and lines was proposed and spread in the 20th century by Alexander Alexandrov, who also coined the word “psychomatrix”. Worth knowing up front: this is a tool for self-observation, not a scientific test.
Each cell describes not “good” or “bad” but the way a quality shows up. Persistence helps you see a thing through — and it also keeps you from changing the plan in time. An eye for detail keeps order — and it also wears you down with small things.
An empty cell does not mean the quality is missing either. It marks a theme where you more often have to act deliberately: check yourself, ask for feedback, leave a margin of time in advance.
The square does not tell you who to be. It shows what switches on by itself and what rests on habit and surroundings.
How the psychomatrix is calculated
The full date of birth is taken, four working numbers are added to its digits, and the whole set is laid out across the cells. Zero never lands in the square.

The first digit of the day, not of the date
In the third number the first digit of the day of birth is doubled: for the 12th that is 1, for the 5th it is 5. The zero in “05” takes no part — otherwise the calculation slips for everyone born between the 1st and the 9th.
Single digits are written with a zero
March is written as 03, the working number 9 as 09. The set holds sixteen digits in all, and the zeros simply never reach a cell. This is where different calculators diverge most often.
How to read the nine cells
Two things matter in each cell: whether the digit reached the square at all, and how many times it repeated.

What the eight lines show
A line is the sum of three neighbouring cells. A strong cell sounds different when the line beside it is nearly empty, so the result reads in combinations.

Whether you lean towards a familiar order or towards change, and how repeated tasks and long cycles feel.

How many digits are in a cell — and what that means
Quantity is a scale of intensity, not a mark of “good / bad”. Both zero and excess have their price.

- The theme is there but does not switch on by itself. It usually shows up where you have decided it matters.

- A visible strength. It gives a fast start and focus, but it is already audible in decisions that do not call for it.

- The quality runs ahead of you. It is harder to stop, to give way, to switch, and to accept an incomplete result.

The Pythagorean Square for a child
No separate children's calculator is needed here: a child's square is worked out by the same formula in the same form — just enter the child's date of birth. The difference is not in the arithmetic but in the reading.
Habits, independence and attitude to school change faster in a child than in an adult — a conclusion goes stale before you finish drawing it. An empty cell is no reason to close off clubs, subjects and interests in advance. It is more useful to watch ordinary situations: how the child gets ready in the morning, how they ask for help, what they do when a task has become dull.
The square hints at where a child will find structure useful, where they need time to manage alone, and where quiet repetition without pressure works best. The decision stays with the adults who see the child every day, not only their date of birth.

It is worth looking at the gap between the scales rather than at single digits. One decides quickly, the other checks for longer; one needs a plan, the other moves more easily on impulse. That hints at what is worth agreeing on in advance.
The method gives no compatibility percentage and no verdict on whether you suit each other. Matching digits replace neither the conversation nor the experience of a relationship.
